Approach Battle

Approach Battle, referred commonly as just Approach, is a game mode where players play for treasure boxes by shooting their Comet as close to the cup as possible without chipping it in. Approach is listed under the "Battle" category game mode. A minimum of 4 players is required to start an Approach game. Approach rooms' maximum capacity is 30 players and can be played as a 3-hole, 6-hole, or 9-hole game. Despite what the room image says, Approach does not have a cost to enter and does not require 100 Pang to play a game.
Gameplay
In Approach, the game room is set to a random course in shuffle hole order (these options cannot be changed). For each hole, you are set at a random distance from the cup. You would then have 40 seconds to try to shoot the Comet near the cup - but not in it. Once the shot has been made, you must wait until the 40 seconds have elapsed at which point the results screen will be shown before moving on to the next hole.
Goal
With Approach, you are playing for treasure boxes which contain an assortment of items in them. The goal in Approach is to obtain as many treasure boxes as possible within the game. There are two ways to obtain treasure boxes in Approach: normal method and mission clearing.
- Normal method
- Receiving treasure boxes is normally done by shooting the Comet and have the lowest remaining distance to the cup for every hole. The number of treasure boxes received for being in the top position depends on the number of players playing the Approach game; the more players there are in the game, the more top position players that can earn treasure boxes and the more treasure boxes they will receive.
- Mission clearing
- On occasions, holes may present itself a mission to clear. Missions in Approach are tasks that players should aim to complete (if the conditions are met) to gain bonus treasure boxes.
Each hole is counted separately, but your total remaining distance is kept track until the end of the game. The top players who have the lowest total remaining distance of all holes will get additional treasure boxes at the end of the game.
Out of game
If the Comet lands in the cup during the shot, the shot is considered to be OUT (not 0.0yd) and a fixed 50yd distance is added to your total. A player that is OUT is unable to retrieve any treasure boxes for that hole (except for certain mission instances, see Active missions section for more details). OUT also applies if the Comet lands in an O.B. or Water Hazard area or if the Comet is never shot when time runs out.
Missions
Additional treasure boxes can be earned by clearing missions that are assigned to various holes. Missions in Approach are tasks that players should aim to complete if they meet the conditions to clear them. The number of missions in an Approach game increases the more players there are in the game, as well the number of treasure boxes earned for if the mission is cleared.
Missions are classified into two types: free-for-all and co-op.
- Free-for-all: Missions that are open for individual players to clear.
- Co-op: Missions that require cooperation with other players to successfully clear.
While missions are optional to do, with co-op missions it is to everyone's benefit if these missions are collaborated on to clear.
The players that are awarded the treasure boxes varies depending on the mission itself, but can fall into one of the following:
- One player: Exactly one player who clears the mission receives the treasure boxes.
- Everybody who clears: Every player who clears or meets the mission condition receives the treasure boxes.
- All players: All players receive the treasure boxes if mission is cleared.
