Terrain Types
While playing Pangya, there are many different terrains (or landscapes) that the Comet can land on. Depending on where the Comet lands, shots can be affected due to the terrain it passes through, as well as affecting future shots after the Comet stops rolling. Different terrains will affect the Comet in different ways.
Tee
Tee is the small area where the player starts for each hole. Each hole only has one tee. A shot made off the tee is called a tee shot.
Note there are small objects that exist on the Tee that may also clash your Comet.
- Shot Strength: 98% - 100%
Fairway
Fairway is an area where there is next to no grass and will allow a Comet to roll and bounce normally. Fairways come in different colors, shapes, sizes, and slopes for each course and hole.
When a tee shot causes a Comet to stop on the fairway, the Fairway Success Rate increases.
- Shot Strength: 97% - 100%
Green
Green is the area surrounding the cup/beam for a hole. Greens come in different colors, shapes, sizes, and slopes for each course and hole. Each hole will only have one Green.
When a Comet lands and stays on the Green, the player must use a putter for the next shot. During the putt, players are forced to use a putter that has an adjustable size depending on the distance from the cup, up to a maximum of 40yds.
When a Tee shot causes a Comet to stop on the Green, it increases the Fairway Success Rate still.
- Shot Strength: 100%
Rough
Rough are non-fairway areas that are part of the hole that the Comet can land on and will not affect the toggle bar speed. Rough come in various forms, depending on the course and type of area.
Grass / Ash / Dirt
Typical rough are uncut grass areas for most courses; in the case of Ice Inferno and Deep Inferno, these are areas with ash; in the case of Wiz City, these are areas with light dirt material. Grass area rough can be divided into two types: shallow and deep. Deep rough will cause a Comet to come to a stop faster and reduce the shot strength significantly more than shallow rough.
Grass rough areas will almost always reduce the shot strength. However, some rough areas may be extremely shallow and would allow a Comet to remain at 100% shot strength.
- Shot Strength: 82% - 100%
Snow
Snow is a type of rough that replace grass areas for courses that take place in a snowy region. Snow is more deep than shallow rough but not as deep as deep rough.
Snow rough areas are found primarily in Ice Spa, Ice Cannon, and White Wiz.
- Shot Strength: 87% - 90%
Rock / Metal
A special type of rough, areas with rock or metal on the ground will cause the Comet to bounce higher for the first bounce and then gradually stop the Comet from bouncing. Unlike grass or snow rough, rock and metal rough do not suffer a reduction in shot strength.
Rock and metal rough is found primarily in Silvia Cannon, Wiz City, and Abbot Mine courses.
- Shot Strength: 97% - 100%
Wood
A special type of rough, areas with wood will cause the Comet to bounce a couple of more times and then slowly come to a stop. Similar to rock and metal rough, wood rough do not suffer a reduction in shot strength.
Wood rough is found primarily in Silvia Cannon, Lost Seaway, and Eastern Valley courses.
- Shot Strength: 97% - 100%
Bunker
Bunker is an area with light sand (or gold coins for Wiz City) that forces the Comet to completely stop movement. Bunkers come in different sizes, shapes, and slopes. Shot strength is significantly reduced. The speed of the toggle bar is significantly increased during the shot.
- Shot Strength: 52% - 85%
Sand
Sand are areas with a lot of desert sand. Sand functions the same as the Bunker terrain, with no real differences between the two.
Sand is exclusive to Shining Sand course.
- Shot Strength: 52% - 85%
Ice
Ice are areas where the ground is made of thick ice. Comet that bounce on these areas will get wider bounces, as well as more bounces than usual. Comet while on ice will keep rolling until it slows down and completely stop. Shot strength is not reduced. The speed of the toggle bar is significantly increased during the shot.
Ice is exclusive to Ice Cannon, Ice Spa, White Wiz, and Ice Inferno courses.
- Shot Strength: 97% - 100%
Water
Water are areas filled with hot spring water, typically where penguins are relaxing at. Comets that land in the hot spring water is submerged in the water, which causes the Comet to not bounce. Shot strength is reduced significantly. The speed of the toggle bar becomes significantly faster during the shot.
This terrain should not be mixed with Water Hazard.
Water is exclusive to Ice Spa course.
- Shot Strength: 82% - 85%
Water Hazard
Water Hazard is an area with liquid that are part of the hole that make it impossible to retrieve the Comet if landed in. One stroke penalty is given to the player if the Comet lands in a Water Hazard area. The Comet is moved somewhere behind the liquid area the Comet landed in for the next shot.
Note that if the liquid areas are not part of the course, it is counted as an Out of Bounds instead. One stroke penalty is still given.
It is possible to bounce the Comet on top of Water Hazard areas by applying a front Power Spin shot.
This terrain should not be mixed with the Water terrain.
Magic Carpet
Magic Carpet are areas with a purple ground that bounces the Comet continuously on the area until it comes to a complete stop on its own. The direction the Comet bounces is aided by the walls surrounding the Magic Carpet.
Because Tomahawk and Spike Special Shots do not cause a Comet to bounce on landing, if either of those shots land on the Magic Carpet, the Magic Carpet will not react.
Note also that since the Comet is not bouncing on its own, Bound Bonus is not applied.
This terrain is exclusive to Wiz City course.
- Shot Strength: 92% - 95%
Out of Bounds
Out of Bounds - O.B for short - are areas that are not part of the hole and where a Comet is not allowed to land in. One stroke penalty is given to the player if the Comet lands in an O.B area. The Comet is returned back to its previous position before the O.B shot.
Unplayable Area
Although not really a terrain type, Unplayable Area occurs when a player is not allowed to take a shot from a specific area. When a shot becomes unplayable, players must use the "Move Comet" function on top of the screen to move the Comet to a nearby Fairway or Tee. Moving the Comet takes up one stroke.
In the case when a Comet lands into an unplayable area directly, the Comet will return back to its previous position before the shot was made. One stroke penalty is still given.
