QuickPatch

QuickPatch was a tool used by Ntreev (and presumably handed to publishers of regions) to create patches for Pangya.

Functionality

Connecting to patch servers

QuickPatch allows the user to connect (or specify connection details) for a patch server/CDN that later will server the clients with the new patch files. This is offered in a multitude of ways.

One option is using a list of predefined (and customizable) servers, allowing to prefill connection details like the IP address, port, target directory, FTP username and password.

The other option is to manually fill out the fields. This however does not offer all the options, because in the configuration dialog, only predefined servers can set a specific TEA key for the updatelist encryption.

Full or incremental patches

Using the options "Whole sync" and "Additional upload" full or incremental patch sets can be differentiated.

Specifying of patch details

For each patch, a patch version (ex. KR.Q4.548.00) and a patch number (ex. 306) can be specified. In this section of the patcher, there also is a disabled field present that specifies the version of the updatelist file format, it's fixed to 20090331.

Update files backup

QuickPatch has a backup directory mechanism for patches, moving the last patched files into that folder. If no files can be found in the current source directory it also tries using the files from the backup directory for a patch instead. The default backup directory is C:\_QuickPatchBackUpFile . Users also have the option to specify a time period of how long these backups should be kept, the default is 1 month.

Exclusive patch files

To not include internal files into patches, a denylist of files can be specified in the configuration.

The default list includes following files:

  • QuickPatch.ini

  • DataSafe.exe
  • WestPak.exe
  • ClassED.exe
  • MakeFont.exe
  • PakOut.exe
  • PuppetMasterG.exe
  • WangED.exe
  • FxBox.exe
  • PangYa.iff
  • ProjectG.pdb
  • wangreal.pdb
  • LoadingRes.pdb

Even with this option existing, the patcher was still leaked regardless, suggesting this was another patched variant with a different name that was not put into this list when the patch was created.

Server list

This feature allows defining the servers that can be selected in the dropdown on the main window, quickly filling out required options to configure patching for a specific server.

The options that can be defined per server are:

  • SERVER NAME: The name of the server in the list
  • URL: The host address/IP of the target server
  • REMOTE DIR: Directory on the target server to upload the patch to
  • ACCOUNT: FTP account username
  • PASSWORD: FTP account password
  • PORT: Server port (always defaults to 21 for FTP)
  • TEA KEY: Key used for the XTEA encryption of the patch listing (could be one of KR, JP, TH, EU, GB, U1, U2, U3, U4)
  • WHOLE SYNC: If a full or incremental patch should be made
  • PASSIVE: ?

Registry import/export for settings

QuickPatch allows exporting and importing settings from/to registry (.reg) files. The settings are pulled from the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ntreev\QUICKPATCH by default.

Discovery

This tool was discovered due to accidentally having been included in a patch itself.
